Tasmanian operator SRT Logistics holds the unique distinction of operating the world’s first ever CAT truck, after taking delivery of a CT630 prime mover from William Adams CAT.
Rather than appearing in the traditional Cat yellow however, the fine feline is instead wearing a white coat livened up by the SRT logo on the doors and roof aerofoil.
Jim Miller, managing director of SRT Logistics, says the decision to buy a CAT truck was made easier thanks to the proven Caterpillar C15 engine, producing 550 horsepower, backed up by a traditional Eaton Fuller RoadRanger transmission.
“Knowing the driveline we’re not expecting any dramas - with the Cat engine there should be no trouble and we’re not expecting any surprises,” says Miller.
SRT’s latest acquisition will be kept busy delivering soft drink from Hobart to Launceston twice each day, at the head of a B-Double combination.
The SRT prime mover is also fitted with a Meritor front axle, Arvin Meritor RT-46-160 rear axle and Hendrickson HAS-461 rear road friendly suspension for a smoother ride, while the Eaton Fuller ‘easy pedal’ ceramic clutch reduces driver fatigue.
